AEGON is one of the biggest and fastest growing life insurance companies in Poland. The company’s dynamic growth is based on mutual funds offered through a wide network of distributors. The network consists of so-called ‘investment programs specialists’ and external partners. Constant development of sales network demands intensive training programs for the employees.

In 2006 AEGON decided to implement IT solutions to deliver online training as well as full evidence of new employees and candidates, together with information flow concerning recruitment process. e-point SA has faced the challenge of designing and delivering complete solution for training support which has been termed AEGON Online School.

The Solution

There was a strong need to build a dedicated system due to lack of ready-to-buy training modules meeting specific needs of AEGON sales force. Off-the-shelf training systems currently available usually do not offer functions properly meeting AEGON expectations. Final functionality of AEGON Online School has been established after a consultancy phase led by managers responsible for training and sales network.

The system has been integrated with the company’s extranet (called Spec.net) which has been developed and constantly improved by e-point SA since 2003. Due to fact that these are two separate applications, a single log-on has been introduced. The training system is used by present Spec.net users (called AEGON Specialists) as well as candidates for Specialists.

The system supports data processing on three levels – evidence, e-learning and reporting. Functions connected with creating the training consist of building training modules and gathering them into paths. There are different levels and paths available for different groups of employees – depending on role defined in the system. Online training is based on a presentation of slides (WWW pages) together with hyperlinks to hand-outs stored in a web repository. Tests related to particular parts of training serve as knowledge verification. The system delivers mechanisms shuffling the questions and answers to rule out cheating. The tests include trial tests for the candidates.

From the point of view of the AEGON management, the exceptionally important functions include full evidence of persons trained by the company as well as precise reporting on the training sessions and their results.

There are also some functions planned for the second phase of system development – they will support certification, nonlinear training paths and off-line evidence. The system will also support SCORM trainings.

AEGON Online School is an entirely online application based on OneWeb software platform fully compatible with J2EE standard. OneWeb results from e-point’s long-term experience in advanced internet solution development.

OneWeb provides both components and programming framework, together with methods for design and implementation. Using these unique set of characteristics e-point system architects and programmers concentrated on flawless business functionality implementation. The remaining elements of the system are delivered by the OneWeb platform mechanisms. Thanks to these mechanisms AEGON Online School has been created only in 3 months from the scratch and it fully meets company’s expectations in terms of sales network support.
