Merck – remote distribution center management
Merck is a global company specializing in pharmaceuticals and chemicals. In Poland the company’s logistics have been recently upgraded with the new distribution center placed far from company headquarters. It appeared crucial that efficient information flow concerning warehouse management and all the logistics actions is necessary.
The aim of IT project run by e-point SA was to create the system integrated with the existing ERP system (Scala) and the local system for warehouse management. Additionally new important features for distribution center employees were to be delivered.
e-point SA was responsible for integrating both systems and delivering internet application capable of quick and efficient data interchange. Apart from main system features and integration issues also new functionalities have been designed: automatic label printing for incoming products and troubleshooting services connected with deliveries and actual stocks.
Since the system was to be delivered in a very short time Merck’s managers decided to use OneWeb as the software platform meeting the needs for quick application building. The final solution is fully compatible with Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) standards. In the database tier the system uses Microsoft SQL Server as this database is working with actual ERP system.
There are two groups of system users – those working in Merck’s client service office in Warsaw and those employed in the distribution center. According to their needs the system has been enriched with label printing functionalities and operates with Zebra printers.
Thanks to the remote storage management system the headquarters has on-line access to complete and actual stock data. Efficient flow of information makes many accounting processes faster and improves the quality of client service.
