IBM launches software laboratory in Cracow

IBM is another large international IT corporation that deicded to invest in Poland. In September, the government signed an agreement with the corporation on the establishment of a modern Software Laboratory. Under the agreement, IBM will open a R&D center in Cracow. "A major role has been played by the potential of Polish engineers, which offers chances for success on the specialized technological project market," said Dariusz Fabiszewski, CEO of IBM Polska.

As part of a long-term government program, the project has received support from the national budget to the tune of zl.800,000. According to the government, over two years, the project will generate zl.16 million in revenue to the national budget and local governments. Polish Minister of Economy said this was an investment in knowledge and new technology.

The IBM Software Laboratory will be the first such center in Central and Eastern Europe. Its main job will be to design and implement software products. The Cracow laboratory will join a network of 40 IBM programming outlets dealing with the development of the company's most innovative products.
